神武天皇，諱彥火火出見，小名狹野，號神日本磐余彥尊
。
天照大神五世孫、
彥波瀲武鸕鷀草葺不合尊第四子。母玉依姬
。以庚午歲生。年十五，立為太子。年四十七，即位。

自踐位起，率師東征，討平長髓彥及八十梟賊，開山林，營宮室，遂遷都即位於大和之檑原。先是，與皇族議曰：「我祖宗僻居西陲，運屬草昧，四方未沾王化，遂使邑有君，村有長，各相陵轢，莫能統一。吾聞東方有美地，山嶽四周，足以恢擴大業。有饒速日命者，率我祖支屬為長髓彥所推，吾將掃蕩之。」於是經營四方，卒降饒速日命，七年而成帝業，國號曰秋津洲
。命大臣主祭祀，掌朝政，論功行賞。遣諸臣任國造、縣主，立靈疇，祀皇祖天神。傳位七十六年崩。享壽一百三十七。葬大和畝傍山東北陵。
