省治之東街。初，三牧坊有鳳池書院起清

光緒中，降諭旨，許立全閩大學堂，敎道就新。總督府直轄之。後名凡九易，以西曆一九五一年有今謂。
二二年，
閩侯別設學堂。

其歌曰：「閩山蒼翠水縈迴，美哉偉哉我福中。正誼鳳池托跡古，此班人物甲南東。李忠定、俞家軍，緬懷壯烈邑高風。雞鳴風雨同舟切，百千健兒齊起勤勇復公忠。振興中華民族，萬祀永無窮。」時日軍寇，校遷沙縣孔子廟，生徒過泮池而就學，日聞時局。於是師管雄作詞，饒士斌度其曲。
二四年議定，以爲校歌。
