福裕少喪二親，伶丁無依。有一日，其在道遇一老衲人，勸其行佛，且言：「能誦《法華經》而已矣。」其答曰：「佛法但讀《法華經》耶？」老衲人被問之，覺氣象大，乃領其至仙巖寺，拜休林老衲為師，因言日：「此兒乃龍象胚珠，可為大器焉。」此休林老衲人乃太原府之名僧，亦耶律楚材所崇信者。耶律楚材嘗贈休林白叟之詩云：「世上原無真長短，森林禪客自多疑。此詩寄回并州去，笑倒休林老古錐。」福裕平生最大之事，乃作佛論，其於道

福裕生人避世，首住奉福寺
。
淳佑五年，
元世祖命福裕往少林寺建資戒大會，又命於文水縣建報恩寺，並賜以田財也。八年，
定宗复詔，命福裕住哈喇及
和林之
承平興國寺
。後復召至殿中，授元高僧官都僧省都總統之職，總天下釋，為禪宗長也
。明年，福裕受萬松白叟之託，住少林寺，時約六年焉。

福裕至寺後，鼎大舉圖，興撲起廢，訓徒說法，使少林寺復至金
時之貌也。又修少林寺之下院永慶寺，复白馬寺，因緣會合，一時欽動。雪庭福裕之法脈終傳續今矣。

元至元十二年於
嵩陽寂滅。
皇慶元年，
仁宗追封晉國公，贈大司空，開府儀同三司也。
