出子元年，出子嗣。出子嗣時尚幼，為其母秦小主夫人秉政。秦小主夫人用宦者，有賢臣心不悅，皆隱之，民亦怨，在魏
之秦獻公聞之而欲返。獻公及其從者至鄭東之塞，為守將右主然所卻。獻公遂入戎
之地，至焉氏塞，為菌改所迎。秦小主夫人遣兵擒之，而軍皆歸獻公也。

二年，獻公與亂軍至秦都雍，秦小主夫人自盡，弒出子，母子皆投於淵。至出子時，諸臣專權，數易其主，國政不安，秦遂日衰。出子薨，獻公乃立。
