箕子，名胥余，
殷
之宗室也，姓子氏。
公乃文丁之子、
帝辛之叔也。帝辛立，官太師，封於箕。帝辛性殘，好酒淫樂，嬖於婦人。公每正色以勸，帝怒，囚而為奴。
周武王克殷，公乃得釋。武王嘗問政於公，事見《
尚書
·洪範》。周封建諸侯，以公為朝鮮侯。
朝鮮為禮儀之邦，自箕子始。又數載，箕子朝宗周，過殷墟，見其宮室崩毀，傷。乃賦麥秀之詩。
孔子贊曰：「殷有三仁：微子去之，箕子為之奴，比干諫而死」。
