經筵，
御前講席也。
漢
唐乃有是席，所以爲帝王講論經史。
宋
始稱經筵。當是時也，置講官以翰林學士，或用他官充之兼之。有宋之講期，每年二月至端午節、八月至冬至節，逢單日入侍，輪流講讀。
元、
明、
清
三代沿襲此制，而明 代尤重之。至皇帝以外，太子出閣後，亦有講筵之設。
清
制，經筵講官，大臣兼銜，於仲秋仲春之日進講
