沿革
此市古來本無。其地分屬諸郡。雍正十二年，置沂州府
。民國立，廢府。民國三年以沂州蘭山縣為臨沂縣。十四年，置琅琊道，治臨沂縣。旋廢。一九五年，置臨沂專區。析其贛榆、東海、邳縣、新海連市入江蘇省。一九九四年，始以臨沂為地級市。
