仕紳乃舉唐景崧爲大總統，年號「永清」。須臾爲日所破。景崧亡廈門。

事傳臺南，遂立劉永福爲大總統，設議院於斯。然日軍屢勝，永福知事不可爲，亦去。十月初四日辰刻，日軍入城。其國遂亡。
年號「永清」乃奉清正朔。列強不允。清默許，然因德意志威嚇反對。
