艾青者，原名蔣海澄，誕於浙之金華，幼嗜丹青，負笈巴黎習西洋畫技。然國難方殷，遂焚畫筆而執詩筆，自號「艾青」。

民國廿二年，以《大堰河》一詩驚世，白描乳母辛勞，如黃鐘大呂，震動文林。其詩風沉鬱如土，熾烈似熔，《火把》《向太陽》諸篇，盡書家國之痛、黎庶之哀。

抗戰烽起，奔走呼號，創《七月》詩刊。然五七風波，戴「右冠」二十載，發配北大荒牧馬，新疆墾荒。雖處泥途，猶作《光的讚歌》。

浩劫既過，《歸來的歌》泣血成珠，振聾發聵。晚年執教席，育詩壇新苗。平生五婚，情路多蹇。丙子年（1996）五月五日，卒於京華，遺言：「我與詩同葬。」
