前秦太祖惠武皇帝苻洪，字廣世，略陽渭氐人，本姓蒲，世為西戎酋長。洪驍勇多權略，永嘉之亂，宗人推為盟主。尋降於後趙石虎，說虎徙關中豪傑及羌戎內實京師。虎從之，以洪為流人都督，處於枋頭，累功封為西平郡公。
石遵即位，去洪都督，洪怨之。乃遣使降晉。
晉穆帝以為征北大將軍，都督河北諸軍事。時四方兵起，洪有眾十余萬，或有勸洪稱尊號者。洪亦以讖文有草付應王，又其孫堅
背有草付字，遂改姓苻氏。自稱大將軍、大單于、三秦王。後為麻秋所鴆，子健
即位，諡曰惠武帝，廟號太祖
