茶山瑤，亦名寨山瑤，瑤之別種也。居大瑤山，自謂拉珈，拉珈者，山人也。其先祖蓋百越也，故雖爲瑤民，其語言近乎侗水而異乎苗瑤。窪者开田峒，植稻米；坡崖則種旱田，藝五谷山珍。稻米五谷供其自食，山珍用以易物於漢民。民咸崇道，有廟老、社老司祠廟，道公、師公主祭祀。其禮儀繁雜，送往迎來，日夜不辍，所費頗多。其民行一夫一妻之制，素無納妾
之習，婚嫁於族內，不與外人結姻親。自有明
以來，無論男女，畢生養子女二人，多則殺之。衣尚青黑，好銀飾。諸瑤好食酢肉，而以茶山瑤之鳥酢爲最佳。
