蛤生田間，名田雞
。冬藏春出。篝火作聲，呼之可獲。三月三日農以其聲卜水旱。聲小，水小；聲大，水大。諺曰：「田雞聲啞，田好稻把；田雞聲響，田好蕩槳。」又，「田雞上晝鳴，上鄉熟；下晝鳴，下鄉熟；終日鳴，上下齊熟」。唐詩：「田家無五行，水旱卜蛙聲。」蛙，蛤也。或謂大聲曰蛙，小聲曰蛤
