故事云昔有一蚱蜢，好歌舞，不務正業。
夏日，見螞蟻忙於積穀，乃笑之曰：「汝何苦自勞，不如與我同樂。」螞蟻不答，惟勤勉不已。及冬，穀盡，蚱蜢饑寒，乃詣螞蟻求食。螞蟻曰：「汝夏日何所為？」對曰：「我常歌舞，不知時過。」螞蟻笑曰：「既然如此，汝今亦可歌可舞。」遂拒之而去。
