螢者，
鞘翅目蟲也。一呼景天，或作熠燿、
夜光、
螢火
。多現腐草、水濱。似蚊
而腳短翼厚。腹下有光，至夜則明，蓋以求偶也。群飛，夜觀若星點。捕廿餘置囊中，可代燈火，謂之宵燭
。
隋煬帝嘗夜遊，放螢火數斗，明若夜月。古寒士若孫康、
車胤，皆貧不能秉燭，亦嘗以此代之。
