釐侯之孫，
武公之子也。
武公五十五年薨，子揚立，是為莊公。莊公五年，娶齊
東宮得臣之妹為夫人，曰莊姜，好而無子。又取陳
女為夫人，曰厲媯，生孝伯，早卒。厲媯女弟戴媯亦幸於莊公，而生子完
。戴媯卒，莊公令莊姜子之，立為太子。莊公有寵妾，生子州吁
。莊公十八年，州吁長，好兵，莊公使將。石碏諫莊公曰：「庶子好兵，使將，亂自此起。」不聽。在位二十三年，莊公薨，太子完立，是為桓公。
