。大順中，貶右庶子，歙州刺史。乾寧元年，入為右散騎常侍。樞入朝經大梁，敬事朱全忠，與崔胤結全忠為援。尋以戶部侍郎同平章，入相。昭宗自岐歸京，出為廣南節度使，朱全忠保之，遂拜門下侍郎，監修國史，累兼吏部尚書，判度支。全忠遷昭宗於東都，進右僕射、弘文館大學士、太清宮使，充諸道鹽鐵轉運使。哀帝朝，與柳璨有隙，為璨所譖，罷相位，拜尚書左僕射。貶瀧州司戶。旋罹白馬之禍，年六十五。
