視連既立，通聘於乞伏乾歸，拜為白蘭王。視連幼廉慎有志性，以父憂卒，不知政事，不飲酒遊田七年矣。鍾惡地進曰：「夫人君者，以德御世，以威齊眾，養以五味，娛以聲色。此四者，聖帝明王之所先也，而公皆略之。昔昭公儉嗇而喪，偃王仁義而亡，然則仁義所以存身，亦所以亡己。經國者，德禮也；濟世者，刑法也。二者或差，則綱維失緒。明公奕葉重光，恩結西夏，雖仁孝發於天然，猶宜憲章周孔，不可獨追徐偃之仁，使刑德委而不建。」視連泣曰：「先王追友于之痛，悲憤升遐，孤雖纂業，尸存而已。聲色遊娛，豈所安也！綱維刑禮，付之將來。」臨終，謂其子視羆曰：「我高祖吐谷渾公常言子孫必有興者，永為中國之西藩，慶流百世。吾已不及，汝亦不見，當在汝之子孫輩耳。」在位十五年而卒。有二子，長曰視羆，少曰烏紇堤
