胡志明欲一統越南，遣兵入南越，建越南南方民族解放陣線以抗之，始構兵。
一九六三年，吳廷琰行暴政於國中，欲滅佛，史稱佛教變故，民大憤，遂有軍將誅之，南越大亂。北越趁間大舉往伐。
一九七五年四月卅日，克其都，總統楊文明降。遂滅南越，復得一統。
