趙明帝石勒字世龍，上黨武鄉羯人也。太興二年，勒自稱趙王。咸和五年，勒僭號趙天王，行皇帝事。群臣固請勒宜即尊號，勒乃僭即皇帝位，大赦境內，改元曰建平，自襄國都臨漳。勒立其妻劉氏為皇后，又定世子弘為太子，署其子宏持節，封大單于。從子中山公石虎為太尉、守尚書令、中山王。咸和七年，崩，時年六十，在位十五年。夜瘞山谷，莫知其所，備文物虛葬，號高平陵。諡明皇帝，廟號高祖。
