鄭燮，字克柔，號板橋，
清江蘇興化人，
康熙三十二年生。
乾隆元年進士

詞，善書、
畫
。詩詞不屑作熟語。畫擅花卉木石，尤長蘭竹。蘭葉之妙以焦墨揮毫，藉草書中之中豎，長撇運之，多不亂，少不疏，脫盡時習，秀勁絕倫。書亦有別致，

參半，自稱「六分半書」。間亦以畫法行之。印章筆力朴古逼文、何。為人疏放不羈，以進士選縣令，日事詩酒，及調濰縣，因歲饑為民請賑，忤大吏，罷歸，居揚州，聲譽大著。恣情山水，與騷人、野衲作醉鄉遊。時寫叢蘭瘦石於酒廊、僧壁，隨手題句，觀者歎絕。著有板橋全集，手書刻之。所作賣畫潤格，傳頌一時。為「揚州八怪」之一。
乾隆三十年卒，年七十三。
鄭燮多畫竹，次則蘭、石，亦繪松畫菊，為清代文人繪者之一要。今存《揚州畫舫錄》、《國朝畫徵續錄》、《桐陰論畫》、《墨林今話》、《墨林韻語》、《隨園詩話》等。燮嘗云：「難得糊塗」，此萬世流傳之句也。
