酚者，
羥基連於苯
環之上而成。
官品也。最簡者為苯酚
。性酸，易爲人所氧化，生紅之醌
。有一羥基者為一元酚，有二羥基者為二元酚，如此類推。
苯酚如羥基連於萘，為萘酚；於蒽
上者，為蒽酚。
驗
可以三氯化鐵驗酚。溶酚於水，加三氯化鐵，生配合物，藍紫色也。
例
苯酚，石炭酸也。
酚酞，酸鹼指示劑也。
三硝基苯酚，苦味酸也，作炸藥。
用
酚為有機合成用也。用於工業，生他物也，製藥、製染。
