北平人也。
多鐸十三世孫，
多爾袞嗣十三世孫。父中銘，寄水其長子也，叔中銓，襲睿王
。日軍入華，颐年時居北平，父叔皆不營產業，生計日蹙，入為圖書館員，日謄字度日。中銓薨，滿洲皇帝溥儀欲以頤年嗣其爵，頤年固辭不受，詈溥仪曰石敬瑭，縱饑死而不臣之。時溥儀重登九五，前清遺老，多往投之，頤年獨不然。戰勝，鬻文為生，頤年知京師故實，嘗為文述之。與張恨水相善。共和國立，述職於北京文聯。及文革起，乃辭職，後於中華書局校《
本草綱目
》，雖無酬勞，寄水甘之如飴。一九八七年，卒。年七十二。
寄水通燕京遺事，與金受申并以故實知名，號曰二金。
所著甚豐，今有《王府生活實錄》、《司棋》、《秋齋碎墨》等行世。
據
