鐘山書院，始建於清，
雍正二年初置，
兩江總督查弼納創建之，以江寧府東郊鐘山為名。後停辦，
道光九年重建。
一八五三年，
太平天國陷城後毀。一八六四年，清兵復南京，兩江總督曾國藩重建。
光緒二十八年，書院廢，改學舍，易為江南高等學堂。其後又改為江蘇省立第四師範學校。近又改為南京中學
