一九一六年，雅禮大學同學會創廣雅中學於長沙
。一九三八年，鄔干於始辦學校，一九四六年定名行素中學，一九四七年遷長沙絲茅衝。

一九五二年，廣雅中學易名為長沙市第七中學。
一九五三年十月行素中學併入，仍號為七中。

二零零三年，黑石渡中學併入。二零零五年，市幼師職業中專併入。二零一二年，長沙市第三十二中學併入。
