東地方之言也。亦以福州話聞。民俗呼云平話
。操之者，多居閩省福州、
寧德之地，能言者有衆千萬。
閩東語有調八：曰陰平，曰上聲，曰陰去，曰陰入，曰陽平，曰陽去，曰陽入，
韻書謂之曰戚林八音
。上古雅言之風猶存，號之曰古漢語活化石。
