武周之世，是爲中國之抵柱。
隋文皇楊堅本出關隴集團，
唐室亦爲關隴之門第。
太宗朝，天下兵馬半集於關中，拱圍其勢。又有拒山東巨室清河崔氏、
博陵崔氏之意。唐室關隴遂有天下權柄。武周以降，
則天多取科舉之士，尚進士文詞之科，士族不務武功，集團遂亡，至玄宗李林甫作相，關隴無復能衛唐室者矣，遂有藩鎮割據之亂，而唐室欲制節度使則不能，以士族皆業文，不事武故也。
