阮福昇，初名洪佚，
憲祖二十九子，母才人張氏。
紹治七年九月廿四降誕。及長，封朗國公。
嗣德三十六年六月十六，
翼宗崩。二十日，輔政大臣陳踐誠宣遺詔，以皇長子瑞國公為儲，
阮文祥、
尊室說廢之，擁帝登大位，以明年為協和元年。
阮文祥、尊室說跋扈，帝唯拱手而已。時法蘭西陳兵香江，帝欲假法人之手除之，陰遣使通好於法人，謀定和約。事聞阮文祥，奏於慈裕皇太后，謀廢立之事。皇太后許之，
陳踐誠聞，欲白於帝，阮文祥執而殺之。十月三十，祥以兵入皇城，廢帝，幽於育德堂藥殺之。祥立簡宗為帝，明年，廢協和年號，更元建福
。
維新三年，追封文朗郡王，諡莊恭。
