顧孟餘者，以字行，名兆熊，筆名公孫愈之
。
直隸順天府人也，生於清
光緒十四年十月十八日。孟餘性勤慎，通經濟，尤善西洋語。及入國民黨，從汪精衛之改組派，授鐵道部長兼中央執行委員。
二十六年七月，
日本入寇，俄頃，陷平津、
上海、
南京、
武漢等處，國勢益危。精衛遂以對日媾和為計，欲走河內
；孟餘數語其不可，然精衛持之甚堅，未果。
三十年七月，授國立中央大學校長，孟餘為人恬淡，校務概令教員自專，眾人皆悅。
三十七年，
憲政既立，授行政院副院長，旋辭。翌年，國府播遷於臺，孟餘乃赴香港組織「中國自由民主戰鬥同盟」，後徙美國
。
六十一年六月廿五日，孟餘以疾歿於台北，年八十有五。
