餘熵者，
熵
之在絕對零度下者也。夫熵，亂度也。
熱力學第三定律嘗云「絕對零度下，無有熵矣。」蓋因諸物於斯，幾盡為完美晶體。
然則餘熵者，豈不怪哉？非也。實因凡事難知，異見常有。凡基態不一，卻同乎零點能量者（亦云無有完美晶體，且粒子莫之能一者），悉有餘熵矣，如一氧化碳
