馬步芳，字子香，經名胡塞尼
。
甘肅河州人也。祖海晏，贈記名總兵。父麒
。步芳其第二子也。
光緒二十九年生，民國十年投西北軍，十七年拜師長。民國二十六年，戰共產黨於高臺，大敗其西路軍，坑殺六千餘。紅五軍陣歿無遺。旋引兵七萬拒紅軍東向，紅軍乃為改道，西走。三十八年，理西北軍政，爲彭德懷所潰。事聞於毛澤東，澤東不許其降。兵敗奔埃及，謁其王，王賜之一邸。後經埃及入阿拉伯，受命爲大使，因留而不返。步芳好治闈中，欲納女侄為妾，事發，褫官。
一九七五年，卒於阿拉伯。今西寧有其故第。子繼援
