》云：「臞仙曰：髙山、流水二曲，本只一曲。初志在乎高山，言仁者樂山之意。後志在乎流水，言智者樂水之意。至唐分為兩曲，不分叚數。至宋分髙山為四叚，流水為八叚。」《
琴史
》曰：「列子云：伯牙善鼓琴，鍾子期善聽。伯牙志在髙山，鍾子期曰：『巍巍乎若泰山！』伯牙志在流水，鍾子期曰：『洋洋乎若冮海！』伯牙所念子期心眀。伯牙曰善哉。子之心而與吾心同。子期既死，伯牙絕絃，終身不復鼓也。故有髙山流水之曲。」據
