故事云一日，
鷹
飛於天，見羊羔於地。鷹下而擒之，以爪持之。鷹歸其巢，以羊羔與其雛食。
寒鴉
見之，欲效其事。鴉下而搏之，欲執一羊。羊大而強，鴉不能勝之。鴉爪陷於羊毛，不能自拔。
牧人見之，來而捕之。牧人剪其翼，以鴉歸其子。
子見而問曰：「此何禽也？」曰：「此鴉也，而欲為鷹。」故曰：切勿不自量力，以免自取其辱。
