木屋也，見於北美
。多在新英格蘭
。分有前後二部，前者兩層，後者一層，俱斜頂，中囪。類乎盛鹽
之盒，因以為名。
大英殖民之初，
安妮女王在位，立有法令，凡疊榭層楹者，課重稅。時徙美洲者，貧者居多，難堪此負，乃築此式，圖以避稅。內設横樑，微置釘合。牆置護板，合橡木數十塊而成，皆楔狀
。今所存者，多三百年有奇。
