也，隸齧齒目鼠形亞目鼠總科
。其形似鼹
而尾長，其聲似鳴而細，其性狡猾而貪，其食穀物而不厭。毛黑白相雜，耳大目細，齒銳而長。性怯而狡，善走藏，食穀草果實。常居穴中，或穿壁而居。能生子多，一胎至十數。
鼠能穿牆入屋，能偷食藏物，能傷衣裳器皿，能傳疾病毒菌
。為人畜之害，宜除之也。故人常設陷阱以捕鼠，或飼貓
犬以驅鼠，或用毒藥以殺鼠。
鼠亦有其美德，如忠於其偶，勇於抗敵，善於適應，不畏困難。而鼠亦有為人所用者，如實驗室之
白鼠，或馴服之寵物鼠
